Publishing, back in the author's hands.
Authorship exists for the people who know things and have never had the time, the route or the permission to put it in a book.
Your experience already holds the story. We help you tell it more boldly, and build a business on the credibility it earns.
About our Founder.
Alex Searle works where deep listening, editorial instinct and a love of storytelling meet. For more than fifteen years he has interviewed, written and produced with some of the most interesting minds in business, technology and culture, and built brands and businesses from the ground up.
Every conversation has a centre of gravity, and his work is to find it. Most founders and leaders he sits down with have tried content before. What they haven't had is someone who stays in the conversation long enough for the real material to surface: the language that's actually theirs, the insights they use without thinking and the stories they tell once they forget they're being recorded.
He hosts the Humble Mind podcast and lives in Costa Rica.
Why Authorship.
Alex learned how publishing works the way most writers do: by sending his work out and waiting. In 2026 he sent his poems to more than 50 journals, presses and prizes. Months later, most still hadn't replied. The ones that did knew nothing about who he was or what the work was for.
He'd seen the same thing from the other side for years. Experts with decades of experience, a method that worked and a story worth telling, and no route to a book that didn't involve a long queue and a stranger's yes.
So he built one, with a team of experienced business strategists and founders who know that a book is only as useful as the work it opens up.
Publishing is where music and news were 25 years ago.
At the turn of the century a few companies decided what music got made and what news got printed. Then the tools to make and share went to everyone. Some of the old players adapted, plenty didn't, and a generation of independent artists and writers built their audiences directly.
Publishing is at that point now. Print on demand, worldwide online distribution, newsletters and AI drafting tools mean anyone can make a book. What's still missing is everything else a good publisher used to give: an editor who cares, a proper launch and readers who trust the name on the spine.
That's what we're building.
Why write a book when anyone can ask AI anything?
Information costs nothing now. What you learned by doing still can't be looked up. AI can tell you what's generally true. It can't tell you what happened when you tried it, what it cost you or what you'd do differently. A book carries that.
People have passed on what they know through stories for tens of thousands of years. Every field runs on knowledge that lives in people's heads and rarely gets written down. A book is how that knowledge outlasts you and reaches people you'll never meet.
We use AI where it helps, to organise your material and speed up drafting. The thinking, the stories and the voice stay yours.

The Wild Seam.
Alex's debut poetry collection is planned as one of the first Authorship Press titles.
We're publishing it the way we'll publish yours, and sharing every step as we go: the edit, the printer, the costs and the launch.
What we're building.
A next-generation independent publisher, in print and online, that puts the author first and gives readers books made from lived experience.

Authorship Press, publishing a small number of books each year
A community of authors.
Every author who comes through Authorship becomes a Fellow: part of a circle of authors who read each other's drafts, share each other's launches and turn up for each other's books.
Around them sits a wider circle, on the Authorship Press Substack.
